This product review is a collaboration with Bepanthen and Britmums as part of the #BepanthenProtects challenge to show you how you can help protect your little one’s skin against the causes of nappy rash. They kindly sent me two tubes of Bepanthen to use, as well as a book and cuddly toy for Aniyah!
What is Bepanthen?
Bepanthen is a nappy care ointment that you apply to your baby’s clean, dry bum after every nappy change. The ointment forms a transparent barrier which protects the delicate skin against nappy rash. As a first time mom I unwittingly thought nappy rash occurred when you leave a wet/soiled nappy on for too long, but nappy rash often affects 1 in 3 babies. Nappy rash is caused by the acidic wee and poo irritating your baby’s delicate skin, and can be made worse by the friction of a damp nappy that rubs and stops air circulating. It most commonly occurs in the first 12 months due to how much babies poo!
My 8 month old daughter has been teething for the past few months which means her poo is a lot runnier than usual. In order to avoid Aniyah getting sore, I’ve been using the ointment consistently after every nappy change for the past few weeks to prevent nappy rash developing rather than having to treat it later down the line. Bepanthen is easy to apply and isn’t sticky like some other nappy creams we have previously tried. I can see a visible layer left on her skin at the beginning of a nappy change which is easy to wipe off, and also assures me that the breathable layer of ointment can withstand a poo-nami!
What’s in Bepanthen?
As a first time mom I’m very particular with what I use on Aniyah’s skin and love the fact that Bepanthen has a kind-to-skin formulation which is so gentle it can be used from birth, as often as required and is even suitable for premature babies. The formula contains:
- No fragrances
- No colours
- No preservatives
- No parabens
- No antiseptics
- Provitamin B5 which helps the skin to repair its natural protective barrier
Why do I recommend Bepanthen?
So besides the fact that the nappy care ointment has a kind-to-skin formulation that is clinically proven to work, it lasts for such a long time! I had actually bought a 100g tube of Bepanthen in July and have used it on my daughter ever since and there’s still soo much left! A little goes a long way and it is very affordable. I keep the big tube beside the nappies and wipes in a plastic storage box in our room, and the smaller 30g tube in the changing bag. The flip top is also a bonus and so much more hygienic than putting my finger into a pot like many creams on the market.
Let me know if you have used Bepanthen before and what your thoughts are.
